It's a Crock!:

It’s not a Crocodile. It is the good old Crock-Pot. Why cook with the Crock-Pot? Freedom- No stirring, basting or turning meats over on a hot stove. It’s safe. No scorching because the heating unit of the pot is not at the bottom, but encircling the side of the Crock-Pot. Economical, for sure. On high only 140 watts; the low setting only 70 watts of electricity. The pot will give your food improved flavor; keeps the vitamins in the pot and allows you to use less expensive cuts of meat. Check out my Crocodile Crock Pot recipes on the recipe page and send in your own to Powerful Recipes, maybe win a great bunch of prizes in our Prize Pot Contest.

Eat Joey, Eat:

The International Federation of Competitive Eating says speed eating is to be done by people 18 or older and controlled with rules and a medical technician present. The current World Champ is our old friend Joey Chestnut 24 years old from New York. Recently knocked down 45 slices of pizza in 10 minutes. His other conquests-59 hot dogs in 10 minutes and 93 hamburgers in 8 minutes. He said “don’t do this at home” he fasted for more than a day and exercised heavily for a week. I still say they should have a chestnut eating contest.

T-Shirt Wisdom:

At a recent speaking engagement our very own MBA Professional Leadership Coach Sid Maietto was speaking to a professional audience of 50 people.  The topic was proper use of phrases and gestures you might use in a teaching environment.  As a closing statement Sid told the group “just be yourself, everyone else is taken.”   The next day a top executive who attended the class made a call and asked Sid,  “What a wonderful closing quote. Was that an original from you?”  Sid told her, “No- I saw it on a T-shirt on a trip to Rhode Island and wrote it down.”   He waited for about three years to use it.  Thanks for sharing Sid.  Check out Sid’s Mini-Web on this site (look for the mini-web starburst).

When Harry met David:

Medford Oregon based gourmet food and gift company, Harry & David, has acquired one of its' competitors, the West Palm Beach, Florida based Cushman Fruit Company. Cushman Fruit Company specializes in mail order citrus products. Both companies' services and products are top shelf! This can only be good news for all of us fruit and gourmet foodies. The tangerine-grapefruit hybrid is a 'must have.' Juicy Lucy, I think she introduced Harry to David!

Coupon Watch:

Right now, with all the save-a-buck stuff going on we are seeing a lot of new coupon clippers joining the fight for ways to save.  I look at the coupons offered and seem to find few which offer me the product I want or the savings compared to an off brand same item.  We must be choosey and not clip a coupon of a brand we can buy for a better price without the coupon.  Know you prices and shop.  Look for store coupons and use the advertiser’s coupon to get a double discount.  Now were talking a deal.  If you can wait for a product to be on sale that’s the time to get it for almost free at times.  My brother bought a watch with about three coupons and paid .58 cents ($30.00 watch).  In the next few months this site will be offering value coupons through out the pages as well as my monthly newsletter.   So keep your head up and save a few bucks.  ENZO

Prices High.. Don't Buy:

Prices too high for your usual choice?  My advice - Don’t buy it! Try a product a little different with a lower price tag.  Maybe an orange on sale instead of a grapefruit or try a lower priced cut of meat and marinate and slow cook it.  One trick most people don’t give a thought to is - ask for the manager and try to negotiate a better price. Some are too shy, but if you don’t ask you’ll never know.  They could say NO, but I have had them say OK on more than a few occasions.  This only works with perishable items.

Nutritional Help for PAIN:

In my opinion, the best new entry into the pain relief market today, and I believe the fastest acting based on published reports and personal use by myself and my family is, all natural health product called Curamin.  It claims to give pain relief in 90% of it users.  It’s available at most good health stores or go to www.Curamin.com . Coffee Love Story:Love Coffee

A good read about an expert coffee taster named "Fikre" set in 1890s London. The story is about a young poet who drinks his coffee every day and thinks it brings him the same pleasures of love. He meets another coffee lover named Emily and thinks he’s in love until he meets one of the finest coffees he’s ever tasted and the slave women Fikre. He becomes smitten with her and begins to forget Emily. Anthony Capella, known for his food – themed novels, is once again on top of his game. At 5000 pages (a bit long) but even the non-coffee drinker will be thoroughly entertained. “The Various Flavors of Coffee” by Anthony Capella $22

The Waiter:

I just read a good book, "Waiter Rant; Thanks for the Tip" - Confessions of a Cynical Waiter (Ecco,$24.95), written by former New York City Waiter, Steve Dublanica. Be polite to your waiter. Being rude will not get you better service and tip at the very least 15%, 20% is just right. ENZO

Cough Drops:

In 1872 Poughkeepsie, New York, a box of Smith Brothers Cough Drops became the first factory-filled candy package in the United States. They were a not so tasty lozenge and did not have the current Wild Cherry Flavor until 1948.

Did You Say, Beer Chips?:

How about a kettle-style potato chip flavored with real beer. Well a new guy on the block is "Beer Chips" from Portland Ore. The chips are crunchy with a subtle taste of beer. They must be perfect with a glass of beer, Duh? Ya think. Beer Chips are available for $7.45 for five 2-ounce bags. That’s about $11.92 per pound. Eat slow they will last longer. ENZO

CaeCaesarsar Cardini:

This guy actually invented the Caesar Salad at Caesar’s Restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico, in the 1920s. He used just the small inner leaves of romaine hearts, leaving them whole so they could be picked up and eaten. Try this way the next time you make a Caesar salad. This is also very cool and hip way to serve your guests. ENZO
